Life in the Piedmont

Life is good in The Virginia Piedmont!  Small towns and villages whose Main Streets and homes date back to the early days of the country, dot the landscape. Large farms, horse ranches and orchards extend for miles providing peaceful vistas and a sense of tranquility.

Farmers markets sell fresh locally-grown fruits, vegetables, cheeses and other products of the region. And meandering through the landscape, the Rappahannock, Rapidan, Rose and other rivers flow from the Blue Ridge Mountains to their ultimate destination in the Chesapeake Bay, providing habitat for wildlife and wonderful places to recreate for locals and visitors.

We invite you to walk down the Main Streets of the region’s towns and see how historic buildings are meeting current day needs, selling everything from antiques and baked goods whose recipes have been handed down over generations to spas, coffee shops and a wide array of restaurants that feature new exotic recipes and ingredients.

Learn about the workings of a dairy, beef or sheep farm during the region’s annual harvest and farm tours where you can spend a day or weekend visiting farms and learning how they operate.  Check our calendar of events for what’s happening each month. From spring through fall, you can come out and pick your own apples, strawberries, raspberries, pumpkins and other products, depending on the season.

Come visit and bring home some of the region’s unique products that you’ll find in the Main Street shops and some of our bountiful harvest that will remind you of your visit to The Virginia Piedmont!
